Maria Razumovskaya: In & Out of Time

Maria Razumovskaya (piano)

In & Out of Time is a musical exploration of what the writer Thomas Mann described as the curious ‘merry-go-round’ we all experience when we try to define something of significance to us. In this intriguing recital, internationally praised pianist and BBC Introducing artist, Maria Razumovskaya brings together works by Busoni, CPE Bach, Liszt and Rachmaninov which take the listener on a journey through the merry-go-round of the composer’s imagination as they commented, through music, on some of the most significant moments of their life. The recording includes rarely performed concert works, such as the magisterial Fantasia nach Bach by Busoni and CPE Bach’s visionary Empfindungen Fantasy, alongside some of the most iconig masterpieces of the piano repertoire including the Bach-Busoni Chaconne and Rachmaninov’s haunting Elegie.

Maria RazumovskayaMaria Razumovskaya has been described as a ‘virtuoso story-teller of the piano’ (Le Courrier). As a soloist and chamber musician her recitals, recordings and radio
broadcasts have taken her to some of the most coveted festivals and concert platforms around the world. With her playing praised as ‘exquisitely cast’ (Pizzicato) and ‘staggeringly passionate’ (Gramophone), Maria Razumovskaya’s interest is in giving performances that aim to narrate the autobiographic, psychological inner-world of the composer. Underpinning her commitment to sharing the curiosities shaping the stories of the music and its makers is her writing – including monographs, book chapters and articles – and teaching at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and guest faculty member at numerous international festivals.
