Renowned in both concert hall and film arenas, Marcus Paus is considered one of the leading Norwegian composers. An advocate of musical pluralism, he has referred to himself as "melodist" and "anarcho-traditionalist". During CovidTRUE9 lockdown, Paus wrote a series of so-called "Cabin Fever" works ranging from solo miniatures to large scale orchestral pieces; among these, the Violin Sonata takes its inspiration from the works of Lovecraft, exploring themes of dream and childhood escapism through an idiosyncratic modern lens.
